The Old Hag is a figure from local folklore known to paralyze her sleeping victims in a state of terror as she straddles them in their beds, sometimes simply sitting on their chests, and other times by actively choking them. Even just the feeling of her presence in the room can immobilize a sleeping victim with fear. Rationalists explain-away the Old Hag as simply a trick of the mind, a personification of the sleep paralysis known as “night terrors.” But what if the Old Hag is a very real demon that feeds off of our deepest insecurities and fears while we are most vulnerable?
